Rukum District
In this district medieval principality amidst Rukumkot, Musikot, Banphikot, Gotamkot & Kotjhahari are used to lie in the Northeast of Rapti zone. In Rukumkot, there is a temple name of Rukmini. It was named Rukumkot decoding her name and it made Rukum by Rukumkot by dropping Kot.
According historical inscription, the king of Jumla , Medini had given Rukum region to his 2nd brother Pitambar. In those smaller kingdoms, there were little villages with a bit of populations. They used to income also a little. They had difficult to save their authority. They had obligation to work and move according signal of next powerful kingdoms. And also majesty King Prithivi Narayan Shah was marching to make /create big Nepal and union in east with unshaken conflicting. After his death king Pratap Singh Shah attacked and won to make real his father’s dream. By Bahadur Shah. Bahadur Shah moved forward in order to fulfill the dream of his father late Prithivinarayan Shah, “the unification of Nepal”. With his diplomatic vision he made marriage relation with Palpa to get help from the West Palpa & Salyan which was his plan to the West he got victory all the stages except Palpa, Dang, Jajarkot & Rukum decided to overcome Sallyan because they found that Sallyan had helped Nepal Government. But in the leading of Kaji Kalu Pandey, Damodar Pandey , Kaji Jagjit Pandey, Sardar Prabhul Rana & Subba Phauj Singh. They attacked Dand and gave to Sallyan . Kaji Jeep Shah, Sardar Amar Singh Thapa , Sardar Parath Bahadur and Subba Jog Malla went throw upper Khasiroad road to Jaharitar of Jajarkot where they made treaty to construct ladder. In this ways small stages like Rukumkot, Musikot, Banphikot, Jaharikot, Aathbiskot, Gotamkot etc. were unified in Nepal during period of Rajabahadur Shah. In this ways in 2018th B.S. among 14 zones and 75 districts. It lies in the mid-western development region, it is in the northern side of the region at the lap of Shisne Himal. Which is known as a remote district.
Here are evidenced may kinds of own culture, tradition, manners & customs different kinds of castes, languages, cultures are specialties of this district. There is also a valley name of Rukumkot (old HeadQuator of Dist.) in the gorge of higher hills. Cause of situating pond shaped as small ditches & hilltop sumits, this place has known as 52 ponds & 53 Summits. It is also called as “52 POKHARI & 53 TAKURI”.
The headquarter of Rukum is situated in JumliKhalanga at Musikot after the Headquarter of Rukum to go from Rukum to JumliKhalanga. Nowadays it’s called Musikot Khalanga.
GEOGRAPHIC SITUATION:
In the map of Nepal , Rukum dist. has extended from 28.29’ orbit – 29.00’ North orbit to 82.12’ foriegnare-82.53’ east. In the east, Baglung & Magdi ; in the west, Jajarkot,; In the north, Dolpa and in the south, Salyan and Rolpa districts are located of this district. The total area of district is 287700 hector. And , it has divided with surplus, hills to peak mountain charming. It has spreaded from flatted field of Chaurajahari ( which is located in 754m. sea level) to the most attractive peak mountains, at the height of 5841 meters.
We can Separate this district in 4 regions.
a) Mountain Region :
This region is located in the north area of district, with spreaded nearly from 4878 meters to 5841 meters of height. The most attractive parts, Shisne Himal, Himchuli, Lalapatan, Chitripatan, Darbari Bhanjyang with way of Dolpa are located in this region . In about of wildlife; Chyakul, Deer, Thar etc. and in about of wild bird; Kryang-Kurung, are enjoying. In the rainy season, many kinds of (different types) Buku flowers are blooming and that makes most attractiveand also there are available most known herbs as mediclinical herbs; like Yarchagumba, Katuki etc.
b) Alkali Region :
This region is situated with height of nearly from 2500 m. to 4848 meters among Mahabharata Par vat Sinhala. There is a few human residence cause of snowing in the Winter season. There are peaceful & pleasant places. Therefore, it is called as Bake ( Park of Mountain). The Western region of Nishi Leek, Chitri Patan & it’s base, Hirneta Phant are situated there. Which are joined with Lalapatan , Dhorpatan & Jangethala. In a bout of wildlife , there are living Kasturi, Deer/Doe, Wolf, Thar etc. And about of wild birds ; there are living & enjoying as Danphe, Munal etc. Here are available the most wanted mediclinical herbs……….eg. Satuwa, Pancha Aule, Padamchalno etc. .

c) Hilly Region:
This region is situated nearly from 900 meters to 2500 meters of sea level. Most of human residence is living in this region. This region is separated & divided by ricers, ponds, lakes and falls. Here are most of the Magar, Kami, Dmai castes and also Brahman, Thakuri, Kshetri, Newar are also staying here. In this region here are available all types of wildlife & plants. Headquarter of the district is also located in this region.
d) Surplus & Flatted field :
This region is located nearly from 75 meters to 900 meters field of sea level. Shani Bheri, Thuli Bheri and their branches are blowing in this region. And also surphase and fertile fields Chaurajhari, Kholagaun, Simli, Radijyula, Solabang, Anahjyula, Bankejyula, Machmi, Sadanchaura. Paddy, wheat, Mustard and curry are growing and producing here.
POLITICAL AND ADMINISTRATIVE DISTRIBUTION:
This district is distributed in 43 Village Development Committees, 11 areas and 2 Parliamentary election areas. It’s headquarters is situated at Musikot Khalanga now after the Headquarter moved from Rukumkot to Musikot Khalanga in 2030 B.S. .

CLIMATE, RAINFALL & TEMPRETURE:
This district is located from 754 metres to 6,000 meters with sea level. In about temperature of Rukum district, we can divide in three types as half-hot, mid-hot & cold. Here is maximum temperature is 43.40˚ Celsius and the minimum temperature is nearly 0.40˚ Celsius. Yearly average rainfall is nearly from 1600 to 2,400 ml.

There are proper in different places for different types of fruits, plants, policlinic herbs, grains etc. in deferent places according kinds of clays. In, rainy season, there have heavy rainfall and the consequence of the heavy rainfall; it makes much landscapes, cause of much slope land.
MAIN HERBS:
There are available many precious herbs in Elevate and Mountain fields of this district. In the lack of fixed information and notification. We have not known and imagined that about of how and which types of herbs are there available? But, in this district, we can found many types herbs….eg. Ories, Cinnamon, Cherry-plum, Myrobalan, Panchaule ,Scent plant, Kurilo, Tite, Timbur, Pangar, Pamamchal, Halhale, Satuwa, Chiraito Bhutle, Silajit, Badalpate , Yarchagumba, Panchaule.
CASTES:
In this district most of people are original inhabitant people with the cast of Magar. And other cases are also living a few generations as Brahman, Chhetri, Thakuri and also Newar, Gurung, Thakuri, Kami, Damai, Sunar, Sarki, Badi, Gayan and etc.
LANGUAGE :
The most spoken language of this district is National language Nepali. And so much people are also speak Magar Kham Language. Here are own different tones & linguistics in Nepali Language according different places & villages.

Religion:
We can find there in Maximum number of Hindus in this district. And also other religious are staying in this district.
Clothes & dresses:
On the basis of geographical situation and castes, here are own fashion. In the Magar community, husband wears; black cap (Topi), Waistcoat, Velvet under jacket (Bhoto) Girdle and Womens wear Loincloths, tunic, sheet, and coin necklace chain, in the neck, silver bracelet in the hands, Opal, Nose-ring, nose-pin on nose, ear-pin, and ear stud on ear. Nowadays these custom fashions are giving up by young generations. And in other community; husbands (Males) wear shirt-paint,shuit etc. And women wear Loincloth, Tunic, Sari, Blouse, Bungles in hands, necklace in the necks and Ladies wear Kurta-Suruwal, Chemise, Skirt, and Middy etc.
Festivals:
Dashain, Tihar, Teej, Makar Sakranti, Baishakh Purnima, Janai Purnima, Chaite Dshain, Balpooja etc.
Folk musical Instruments:
Here is a custom, in the weeding program, worshiping, festivals, playing Cymbal, Clarinet, Damaha, Tabor, (Madal) flute etc.
Major Pageant (exhibition):
In Rukum District, there have been celebrating different type's pageants and festivals in many places and many times for entertainment. In Chaurajahari, there manage a famous pageant in the Kartik Sukla Ekadasi, and other hand, in Musikot Khalanga at Tharpu, Digre Shai Kumari Temple, there is celebrating the greatest pageant of the district. In that day, everybody conflicts that the God will give strength and bless to fulfill dream s of the life. And the worshiper & visitor come from so far.
Other pageants:
These wise, in the period of Kartik Purnima, there is celebrating festival as Panch-Punhi in Musikot and Rukumkot. In the period of Mangsir Krishna Panchami 'Nathigadh Mela' in Brahma Mandir at Shyalapakha, in the period of Pash Purnima, Kunakhet mela in Pipal VDC at Kunakhet are greatly & continuously celebrating.
In addition, the large numbered of residence Magar people celebrates Bal-Pooja (The image of Land worship), from Ashadh 1th Ashadh 15th. Nowadays these festivals are also celebrating in Dang, Chitwan, Kathmandu, cause of Migrated to there from Rukum, Rolpa and other Magar society.
Major customs dances:
The famous ritual dances of Rukum are Singaru Nanch, Mayur Nanch, Tappa Nanch, Paisari Nanch, Ratyauli dance, Sorathi , Jhyaure dance, Bal-Pooja Nanch ( dance) etc.
Religious places:
The major religious places of Rukum are Digre Sai Kumari Mandir, Siva Mandir, Kalika Mandir, Bijayaswari Mandir, Bhagawati Mandir, and Bijayaswari Laxminarayan Mandir (Athbiskot-6), Sai-Kumari Mandir (shyalakhadi) Kalika Mandir (Musikot).

Rukum District

Rukum District, a part of Rapti Zone, is one of the seventy-five districts of Nepal, a landlocked country of South Asia. The district, with Musikot (also called Jhumlikhalanga) as its district headquarters, covers an area of 2,877km² and has a population (as of 2001) of around 188,438. Rukum district has many could-be-tourist-spots places, but due lack of information, many of them remain unexplored. One of the main place that could have been the major tourist destination is Mt. Sisne (सिस्ने हिमाल) also called virgin mountain, as nobody has claimed to have conquered this mountain yet. Rukum is also called The place of 'Baunna Pokhari Tripanna Takuri', means the place of 52 lakes and 53 hills .Rukumkot is the most attractive tourist destination in Rukum District in Nepal. There is very beautiful Pond called Rukmini Tal (local name Kamal Dhaha) and there are a lot of mysterious caves surrounding the beautiful village Rukumkot. Among them Deurali Cave is very interesting and mysterious,is situated in eastern part of Rukumkot.It is really attractive valley having natural beauties ever.There is a beautiful Temple called Barah Temple and one more historic temple Sibalaya near by Rukmini Tal.
